Adult Mid-Week Mud Club with Liz Howe (Ages 18+)
The fee for this class covers up to 25lbs of clay, glazes and firings. Additional clay will be available for purchase.
Join us in the VAE Ceramics studio for the inaugural Mid-week Mud Club. We’ll meet weekly for 10 weeks to make work, think about work, and investigate the work of national, international, contemporary and historic potters and ceramic sculptors.
Liz earned a B.S. in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz, an M.S. in Art Education from The College of St. Rose, and an MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. She has taught at both the high school and college level, including a four-year Visiting Assistant Professorship in Ceramics at RIT’s School for American Crafts and as Artist-in-Residence at the Tainan National University of the Arts Graduate School in Taiwan. Liz has also been invited to give visiting lectures at institutions such as Skidmore College, the University of Montana, the University of Northern Colorado, Kansas State University, and Utah State University. Liz loves teaching art and believes deeply in its ability to connect us—to our own creativity and to one another. Whether in the classroom or a community ceramics studio, she sees making as a shared,
human experience rooted in curiosity and connection.
Students should come with prior ceramics experience in hand-building, wheel-throwing and/or both. We’ll discuss individual project plans Week #1. Come with ideas, an open mind, the ability to take and share feedback, and a desire to work in a friendly community of artists.
You will be asked to email us two images of your work.
Also included with the purchase of this class is student access to this session’s self guided Clay Labs where current students will be able to hone skills and work on projects. Labs will be monitored, not instructor led. Clay Labs will be Mondays from 6-8pm and Thursdays from 2-5pm from January 29th to April 2nd.
