Mowgli Giannitti Sextet

November 11, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Vermont Arts Exchange is happy to announce a night of fantastic live music with the Mowgli Giannitti Sextet. Join us at the Masonic Hall at 504 Main Street in Bennington on Friday, November 11th. Tickets are available at the door only for $15 for the general public and $5 for students. Doors open at 7:30. The show begins at 8pm.

On bass and vocals, Mowgli Giannitti shares the stage with Jay Sager on drums, Matthew Steckler on saxophone, flute and backing vocals, Jackson Moore on saxophone, Eric Hangen on keyboard and Marc Edwards on guitar and backing vocals. The ensemble will take the audience through a range of styles, including jazz, funk, rock, latin, folk and middle eastern, incorporating a great deal of original work ranging from fully original compositions to unique and compelling arrangements of classical material. One can also expect a few standard repertoire pieces to be interspersed. While most numbers are vocally guided, the band utilizes instrumental improvisation as a useful tool to dazzle and guide listeners through a range of colors, spanning the spectrum from warm joyful relief, to ecstatic fireworks of harmony and rhythm.

Giannitti is a bassist, composer, and singer born and raised in Southern Vermont having recently graduated from Bennington College with a degree in composition. Recent and current projects include composing and directing music for Bennington College’s spring production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, repeating these roles for Jiyoun Chang’s developing theatrical production, The Oddysey Project, and singing a supporting lead role in Kitty Brazelton’s developing Opera The Art of Memory. Lately, he has been collaborating with the recent Bessie Award-winning Dancer and Choreographer Soleymane Badolo on his student pieces at Bennington College. He soon plans to travel to Cuba to immerse himself in, and study the intricacies of Latin Jazz.

Tickets for this event are only available at the door, $15 for general public and $5 for students. Thyme Tables Catering will bring the cash bar and Bringing You Vermont will have munchies on hand to purchase.

Up next: January-April 2017 VAE’s Basement Music Series. Check our website for details as they emerge.
